The forecast for Robeson County over the next nine days is mostly fair.
Hopefully the weather will be at least that good.
The weather certainly looks perfect for Friday and Saturday, when the annual Robeson Regional Agricultural Fair returns to the Robeson County Fairgrounds for its 67th edition. Organizers of the annual good time always call the pending event the best one ever, and for good reason: Each year the fair returns its most popular attractions, and then tries to add a few bells and whistles.
Last year 92,000 people enjoyed the nine-day event, and organizers are hoping to push that figure into six digits this year. General admission tickets for the fair, which opens on Friday and ends on Oct. 12, are $6 and children 3 and under get in for free. But there are free tickets almost everywhere, and if you can’t find one, it’s probably because you didn’t look hard.
Another opportunity to get in for free is on Oct. 10 when a donation of five cans of food for the Robeson County Church and Community Center food pantry is good for admission.
The fair, with its cotton candy, farm exhibits, cooking contests, music and 36-ride midway, offers a little something for everybody, and is a great way for the family to spend a crisp October day. Each year, the Robeson Regional Agricultural Fair is recognized as one of the best in North Carolina, and some years it’s recognized as the best.
“It’s a family-oriented, children-related event teaching kids morals, ethics and drug-free [living],” said Allen Faircloth, the fair’s president.
It’s more than just a good time. According to Faircloth, each year the fair distributes $10,000 to support local community projects, so the fair is providing more than a good time.
