LUMBERTON — A 31-year-old man charged with shooting into a Lumberton home Thursday night is recovering after an unidentified person shot him, according to police Capt. Terry Parker.
Kentay L. King was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center and was airlifted to an undisclosed hospital, Parker said in a statement.
King is charged with shooting into a home on Warwick Mill Road and possessing a firearm as a felon. He was given a $50,000 unsecured bond. The residents, 27-year-old Amanda Collett and 19-year-old Darius Lesane, were uninjured.
“The magistrate gave him an unsecured bond so he could receive treatment for his injuries,” Parker said. The Robeson County Detention Center did not have a photo of King.
Lumberton police received a call at about 9 p.m. that someone may have been shot behind the Dixie Drive Inn restaurant. They found King, who lives on Elizabethtown Road, with a gunshot to his upper body. He initially refused treatment, Parker said.
“It is believed that his injuries are not life-threatening …,” Parker said.
Police learned that King had been shooting into the home when someone down the street shot him, Parker said.
King was previously charged with larceny and drug offenses and was under post-release supervision, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Anyone with information should call Detective Charles Leavitt at the Lumberton Police Department at 910-671-3845.
