LUMBERTON — Police are investigating a shooting that left a 23-year-old woman injured.

According to Capt. Terry Parker of the Lumberton Police Department, Tamikia Owens, of Sinclair Street, was shot in her upper body at 10:37 p.m. in the Lumbee Homes neighborhood in South Lumberton.

Owens, who was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Hospital, did not suffer life-threatening injuries, Parker said.

Officers were notified of Owens’ injuries by hospital personnel minutes after the shooting occurred, he said. Details remain sketchy as police were unable to interview Owens, who had undergone surgery.
