LUMBERTON — American Indians from across the United States and bordering nations are expected to visit Robeson County on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to help the Lumbee Tribe celebrate the coming of spring.

The Lumbee Tribe’s annual Dance of the Spring Moon, Lumbee Spring Powwow, is being held at the Southeastern North Carolina Agricultural Events Center Pavilion on U.S. 74 East, Exit 13A, just outside of Lumberton. This is the tribe’s largest sponsored event and over three days usually attracts more than 400 dancers from across the country and about 3,000 spectators.

The host drums for this year’s event will be Stoney Creek and Southern Eagle. The “head male dancer” will be Chris Conner, and the “head lady dancer” will be Sparrow Plainbull.

Each day there will be a Grand Entry when all the dancers and drummers gather in the arena at the same time. At other times those dancers in the ring are a limited number competing in special categories.

The times for the Grand Entry are 7 p.m. Friday; noon and 7 p.m. Saturday; and 1 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $8 for adults; $6 for young people ages 6 to 12; and $5 for those 55 years of age and older. Those members of the military with ID pay $5, and children ages 5 and younger are free.

Weekend passes are $18 and family discounts are also available.
