Lumberton Ponytails go undefeated at state

After a third place finish in the district tournament, the Lumberton Ponytails saw the benefits of several hard weeks of practice, going undefeated at the Dixie Youth State Championship in Carthage. The win advances the team to the Dixie Softball World Series, which starts Aug. 4 in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. The team will represent North Carolina against 11 other teams from around the country, an honor that comes in Lumberton’s first year participating in Dixie softball. The team is looking for funding assistance to help make the trip. There will bucket drive at Sams from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday 7/25. Other donations can be sent to Lumberton Softball Association at 324 E 4th St., Lumberton NC 28358.

The team includes, front left, Kasey West, Kirsten Risen, Ashley Prevatte, Morgan Britt, Skylar Chavis, Katlyn Jones, MacKenzie Johnson, August Smith; back left, coach Stephanie Prevatte, coach Johnny Britt, Haven Britt, Carley Dawson, Katie Kinlaw, Cayce Roberts, Anna Mercer and coach Justin Jones.
