PEMBROKE — A third person filed Monday for a seat on the Tribal Council now held by its speaker.

Rene Kerns filed for the District 3 seat currently held by Pearlean Revels, who is seeking re-election. Alton Locklear Jr. is also running for the district seat that represents Lumberton.

Kerns did not supply The Robesonian with any biographical information.

The candidate filing period continues through Friday. Those wishing to be on the ballot for the Nov. 12 election can file at the elections office at 707 Union Chapel Road from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition to District 3, seats are up for election in Districts 2, 6, 7, 8, 12 and 13. All of the positions are for three-year terms.

Tribal candidates must be enrolled members of the tribe; at least 21 years of age; have maintained their principal residence in their district for at least one year; and have no felony conviction.
