LUMBERTON The Lumberton softball team had plenty of offense in Wednesdays 7-1 home loss to South View.
The Lady Pirates finished with six hits and had at least one runner reach base each inning, the problem was driving them home.
They got some big hits and we didnt get them, thats what it boiled down to, Lumberton coach Mackie Register said.
Lumberton pitcher Meagan Skipper did the majority of the damage, finishing with hits in her first three at-bats. She opened the game with a two-out double and then had singles in the third and fifth innings.
In all three instances, she never scored despite being in scoring position twice.
Lumberton held South View scoreless for the first three innings, until the Tigers found brief rallies to score two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth off a combined six hits. Lumbertons only run came in the fifth inning, when Summer Prevatte reached on a fielders choice and scored on a single by Skipper.
It was one of three home athletic events Wednesday at Lumberton High, which was hosting its annual Think Pink event. Lumbertons teams wore pink uniforms and money raised went to a scholarship fund.
The event is hosted annually in memory of Angela Hodges, the late wife of LHS baseball coach Paul Hodges.
The Pirate baseball team won its Think Pink game Wednesday with a 13-0 win over South View in five innings. Lumberton put together 13 hits and took advantage of two errors.
It included 3-for-3 days from both Ryan Mayers and Brian Phillips. Raleigh Forrest got the win for LHS, allowing only three hits.
Lumberton soccer beat Richmond 5-3 in a Southeastern Conference game. The Pirates had goals from Michaela Nash, Madi Britt and Hancel Tobon to go up 3-2 at halftime, but a goal by Cherie Ellerbie tied it 3-3 late in the game.
Nash then scored two goals in the final five minutes to put it away. The first on came a pass from Tobon with 4:25 left, the second was on a 20-yard free kick with 18 seconds left.
Lumberton goalie Brittany Bolin had four saves.
Fairmont baseball beats S. Columbus
TABOR CITY The Fairmont baseball team beat South Columbus 6-3 for its 10th win of the season.
The Golden Tornadoes got a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but South Columbus eventually tied it in the bottom of the fifth. Fairmont scored the go-ahead in the sixth and got two insurance runs in the seventh.
Chance Leggett led Fairmont offensively. He went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two runs batted in. Pitcher Ricky Ivey went 1 for 3, had two RBI and was credited with the win.
The Fairmont softball team lost 10-3 to South Columbus. The Golden Tornadoes allowed 10 hits and struggled defensively, finishing with six errors.
Tiffany Hicks led Fairmont with two doubles and finished 2-for-4.
St. Pauls soccer beats Red Springs
ST. PAULS The St. Pauls soccer team got its first win in program history, beating Red Springs 2-0. The Bulldogs broke a 0-0 halftime tie with a goal from Amanda Powell. It came 10 minutes into the second half off a pass from Sabeth Hunt.
Hunt scored the games second goal 12 minutes later on a free kick from 18 yards out.
