LUMBERTON -- The father of a 23-year-old Maxton woman who was murdered has offered a $500 reward for any information leading to an arrest in the case.
The nude body of Michelle Driggers was found in the driveway of a small overgrown cemetery off of Hestertown Road on March 30.
She didn't have a job at the time of her death, but she had worked as a waitress in the past, her father, Jimmy Driggers, said. She was found about 11 a.m. on a Sunday, about eight hours after last being seen alive. Her body was in an area known for prostitution.
“There were rumors that she was a prostitute, but I don't know for a fact that she was,” Driggers said. “I don't know if that had anything to do with her death.”
Driggers said Michelle was a good daughter, but had problems like everyone else. She had three children.
Driggers said he put up the reward to help with the investigation.
“I just think this case isn't coming along fast enough. Whatever she's done she didn't deserve to be beaten to death,” Driggers said. “I just want to try to speed up the process and find the person who brutally killed my daughter.”
According to sheriff's Capt. Randal Patterson, the woman was struck on the head with a blunt object. She was found face down in the drive to the cemetery. Her clothes had been scattered around her bruised body.
Britt, the lead investigator, declined to comment about results of the autopsy and the official cause of death.
Anyone with any information can call Britt at 671-3179, the State Bureau of Investigation at (910) 486-1262 or Driggers at 844-9802.
