FAYETTEVILLE — One of two men wanted in connection with the rape of a female employee at an Advance Auto Parts store in Fayetteville and an armed robbery in Robeson County was arrested and charged Friday morning.
Cortese Tramond Davis, 23, was apprehended shortly after 6 a.m. in Spring Lake by U.S. marshals, according to Fayetteville police spokesman Lt. Todd Joyce.
Davis, of the 400 block of Vass Road, Spring Lake, was caught while attempting to escape from the window of an apartment building on the 700 block of Blue Street, according to Joyce.
Davis and 20-year-old Paul Merinord Smith, of Dunn, are accused of robbing an Advance Auto Parts store in Fayetteville and raping a female employee there while holding another employee at gunpoint at about 8 p.m. on Nov. 2. They are accused of using a long weapon and pepper spray while committing those crimes.
They are suspects in an armed robbery, also at an Advance Auto Parts store, that occurred in Lumberton at about 9:20 p.m., also on Nov. 2.
Fayetteville police charged Davis with first-degree rape, conspiracy and two counts each of first-degree sex offense and robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.
Lumberton police have warrants against Davis accusing him of armed robbery, kidnapping, conspiracy and larceny of a firearm, according to Capt. Terry Parker. As of Friday afternoon, Davis had not been taken to Lumberton to officially be charged with those crimes.
Anyone with information about Smith should call Lumberton police at 910-671-3845 or Fayetteville police at 910-433-1529.
