ROWLAND — A 20-year-old Rowland man was arrested Tuesday afternoon by Rowland police and charged for the murder of a 21-year-old college student, Scotland County Sheriff Shep Jones said Tuesday.

Timarius Fredrick Baker, of 208 West Church St., was charged with armed robbery with a dangerous weapon and first degree murder for the death of Demonsha Clegg, of Raeford, who was found dead Sunday on Plantation Road in Laurinburg.

Baker is being held in Scotland County Jail without bond.

Sheriff Shep Jones said that Baker and Clegg left Encore Club in McColl, S.C. together in her vehicle early Sunday night and an “altercation occurred sometime when they were together.” Baker shot her several times and left her for dead on Plantation Road, Jones said.

Clegg’s vehicle was found within the city limits of Rowland. Local authorities found that it had been burned.

Additional charges against Baker are pending by the Rowland Police Department.

Clegg’s body was discovered by a passerby at about 9 a.m. Sunday. She was a junior at Elizabeth City State University.
