LUMBERTON — Two more people now have a free car in their sights thanks to United Way of Robeson County’s eighth annual Car Giveaway.
Christopher Ware and Ashley Jacobs joined a lucky group of 16 when their names were drawn by Terry Chapin, of Terry Chapin Nissan, from a pool of nearly 800 on Tuesday. Jacobs works at Walmart and Ware becomes the 10th BB&T employee selected as a finalist.
The last two finalists will be chosen Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Peterson Toyota on Fayetteville Road. On Jan. 16, one winner will be selected from the group of 20 in a reverse drawing at Biggs Park Mall.
The winner will randomly choose an envelope, selecting one of the following cars as a prize: a Chevrolet Spark from Lumberton Chevrolet-Buick-GMC-Cadillac; a Nissan Versa from Terry Chapin Nissan; a Ford Fiesta from Fair Bluff Ford; a Honda Fit from Lumberton Honda; or a Toyota Yaris from Peterson Toyota-Scion-Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge.
Chapin says he’s hoping one of the four finalists he’s selected this year will win, whether they walk away with a Nissan or not.
“As long as I’m here, the drawing is going to keep on going,” said Chapin.
The drawing is part of United Way’s Fair Share program, which allows participants to donate one hour of their wages a month to United Way in exchange for a spot in the drawing.
