PEMBROKE — Seeking to build on one of the most successful eras in the department’s 73-year history, The University of North Carolina at Pembroke athletics department released its new four-year strategic plan to the general public on Wednesday.
“It’s an exciting time for us to publicly release the hard work that our staff and University family have poured hours of labor into,” said Dick Christy, UNCP’s director of athletics. “Their passion is evident in this document and it will now serve as our charge in how we provide an outstanding athletics experience for all of our constituents.”
The plan is the final product of a process that began in June and involved UNCP’s faculty, staff and student-athletes, as well as the department’s invested stakeholders and community members. The process focused on three essential areas of the department — competitive excellence, recruiting; student-athlete success, academics, community outreach; and branding, revenue and marketing.
The strategic plan outlines four major goals for the department, including develop successful adults both academically, athletically and socially; uphold culture of integrity, gender equity and compliance; recruit students, coaches and staff that enhance our programs; and, communicate our story, enhance marketing and community engagement.
Strategies and tactics have been identified to achieve each of the four goals.
The final version of the plan also took into account the task of upholding the department’s core values – accountability, excellence, integrity, loyalty and sportsmanship.
“I am encouraged by how collaborative this process was in engaging our campus and community to create this plan,” said UNCP Chancellor Dr. Kyle Carter. “The initiatives listed as priorities are in direct alignment with our broader campus goals and should help us position our institution for the future.”
