LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 56-year-old man who was allegedly shot at a Lumberton home, possibly by his son-in-law, according to Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives.

Victor Garza, who lived in Texas, was dead when deputies arrived at the home on the 200 block of Rennert Road, Thompson said in a statement. A cause of death has not been determined and, at 4 p.m. Monday, an autopsy was being performed.

According to Thompson, a person at the home called 911 just before 5 a.m. Sunday and said his father-in-law was trying to stab him and that he had shot his father-in-law. Thompson would not say who lives in the home or who called 911.

“This investigation is currently ongoing, however it appears there had been a domestic dispute between the deceased and his wife which occurred earlier in the morning at a club in Fayetteville,” Thompson said.

No arrests have been made and Thompson declined to release any more details.
