Lumber River wins opening game

LONGVIEW, Wash. — The Lumber River Babe Ruth team won its first game at the Babe Ruth 15 World Series 4-3 over Kelso (Wash.) last night in eight innings. Spencer Carter, Ethan Chavis and Jacob Oxendine all had two hits and an RBI in the game with Tedrick McNeill contributing an RBI as well. St. Pauls soccer opens with a win

ST. PAULS — A goal by Anthony Espinoza in the final three minutes gave the St. Pauls soccer team a 2-1 win against West Bladen in the Bulldogs’ season opener. The teams were tied 0-0 at halftime and fell behind early in the second half before Erik Perez converted a penalty kick to tie it.

Lumberton soccer gets 1st win

LUMBERTON — The Lumberton soccer team got a goal with just over a minute left to play to beat Cape Fear 1-0 for the Pirates’ first win of the season. The team, which lost 3-0 on Monday to Southview, got a goal by Freddy Carrillo with 1:15 left in the game. Nick Veneziano had 12 saves and earned his first varsity shutout.
