LUMBERTON — The Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina recently received a $7,000 grant from Piedmont Natural Gas Foundation for two furniture projects.

The first project will be the purchase of living room, bedroom and dining furniture for the Lions Cottage, one of two transitional living cottages on the Lake Waccamaw campus. This includes durable sofas, love seats, cushions, coffee tables, end tables, single beds, dressers, bedroom privacy panels and dining room tables.

The second project will be to provide office desks and office chairs for the newly opened Therapeutic Foster Care offices in Lake Waccamaw. Therapeutic Foster Car works to provide specialized foster care services across the state to children who may have experienced extreme cases of trauma in their previous homes. The new office space allows more opportunities for foster families and children to receive specialized training and care from credentialed professionals.

“We approached the PNG Foundation for the Lions Cottage furniture on the suggestions of Kenneth Cox, a longtime friend and supporter of B&GH through his Lions Club association and as a PNG employee,” President Gary Faircloth said. “The request has turned into a great partnership for our organization.”

For Cox, the request represented an aha moment.

“With the Lumberton Lions Club, I knew about all the good B&GH does for children,” Cox said. “When I learned about the Lions Cottage Furniture project, I realized that PNG Foundation grants support similar projects with other organizations.”

Cox helped arrange for East Region Community Relations Manager Tammy Thurman to take a tour of campus.

“Once I was on the campus, there was never a question of whether we would support the project,” Thurman said. “It is an honor to be in partnership with an organization that does such incredible things for children.”
