Application date extended

for hospice training course

LUMBERTON — Southeastern Hospice has extended the deadline to apply for hospice and sensitivity training to Tuesday.

Participants will learn about issues important to the care of dying patients and their families, including hospice philosophy; concepts of dying; family dynamics; communication skills; and aging and reminiscing.

Training will begin Thursday and end on Sept. 24. The group will only meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Southeastern Hospice House, 1100 Pine Run Drive in Lumberton.

Walmart to host wellness,

health day on Wednesday

LAURINBURG — A community health event will be held on Wednesday at the Walmart Supercenter in Laurinburg.

The event will last from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will offer free healthy food samples, health awareness information, sun safety and healthy eating tips, tours of the Wellness of Wheels bus and blood pressure and diabetes screenings.

Grief group plans to meet

for first time on Thursday

LUMBERTON — An Adult Bereavement Support Group will begin its weekly meetings Thursday at Southeastern Hospice House.

The meetings, which begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8 p.m., will meet for four consecutive Thursdays with the last meeting being held on Oct. 1. Southeastern Hospice House is at 1100 Pine Run Drive.

LUMBERTON — Southeastern Health Community Health Education Center is inviting grandchildren and grandparents to spend the morning together for Grandparent Appreciation Day on Friday.

Southeastern will host a light breakfast, story time and arts and crafts event for grandparents and their grandchildren at 11 a.m. at the Community Health Education Center located across from the mall office at Biggs Park Mall in Lumberton.

discuss oral health, hygiene

LUMBERTON — A healthy breakfast and presentation from Dr. Craig Slotke, a dentist from the ECU School of Dentistry, is planned for the next Breakfast at Biggs speaker series.
