ST. PAULS — Artists Tino and Carole Ferro will hold an open house on Friday and Saturday at their Frog Pond South studio in St. Pauls.

The couple makes folk art out of refurbished metals — or “junk,” as Carole calls it. She estimates they have designed more than 20,000 sculptures during the past 40 years, many of which have been displayed in galleries and museums across the country.

“We have about 20 new pieces that we have created over the winter and will have a couple more by the open house,” Carole said in an email.

The couple usually builds their sculptures from discarded materials scavenged from junkyards and other places. Tino welds the disparate parts together in angular shapes that look similar to orgami. Carole then adds splashes of vibrant paint to the sculptures, which have proven popular with art collectors and can fetch several thousand dollars at sales.

The Ferros split their time between Frog Pond South and Frog Pond North, a studio located in their hometown of Little York, New York.

Carole says they plan to retreat to Frog Pond North for a few months after the open house.

Frog Pond South is located at 58 Prairie Lane, off East Great Marsh Church Road in St. Pauls. To see examples of the Ferros’ work, visit frogpondart.com.
