LUMBERTON — A child was seriously injured today when he was struck by a car while riding a bicycle on East Seventh Street, according to several sources.

The Robesonian has been unable to get any information from the Lumberton Police Department, but there has been plenty of talk about it on Facebook. The Robesonian is not publishing the child’s name until it can be confirmed.

Burnis Wilkins, a city councilman and former law enforcement officer, asked for prayers for what he said is a teenager on Facebook. He said it happened near Inglewood Street and the child was in “very serious condition.”

“I am asking those of you that believe in the power of prayer to please use your faith in God and ask for his healing power for this teen,” he wrote. “I also ask for prayers for comfort to the operator of the vehicle as I understand it was an unavoidable collision on the part of the driver.”

The Robesonian will update this story as information is available.
