FAIRMONT — A 22-year-old Fairmont man who was engaged and the father of three has died from injuries he suffered in a car accident last week.

According to investigating Trooper Donald Stubbs of the state Highway Patrol, Coty Dewayne Gibson was driving a 2009 Saturn SUV at a “high rate of speed” on Creek Road near Orrum at 6:59 a.m. Thursday when the vehicle exited the road to the left, struck a ditch and overturned several times.

Gibson, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle and suffered severe injuries. He was flown to New Hanover Medical Center and died on Saturday.

The vehicle was destroyed.

Gibson’s obituary is in today’s The Robesonian. He is also survived by his parents and two brothers.
