ST. PAULS — A 44-year-old Cumberland County man was killed Friday when the motorcycle he was driving went left of center and struck a passenger car head-on, according to the state Highway Patrol.

According to a report by Trooper Chad Covington, Delbert Owens, of Hope Mills was driving a Suzuki west on N.C. 20 when it struck a Toyota just more than three miles outside of St. Pauls. Owens was pronounced dead at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The driver of the 2015 Toyota, Jessica Smith, 29, of 115 E. Chapel St., St. Pauls, was not injured. The report said she was wearing a seat belt. She was alone in the vehicle, which had about $15,000 worth of damage done. The motorcycle was destroyed.

There were no charges related to the accident, which happened at 9:31 p.m.
