LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting death on Monday of a 21-year-old man, according to Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives.

Thompson said in a statement that Emergency Medical Services answered a call at 10:43 p.m. of a person shot in the chest in the vicinity of 80 Quail Run Road in Lumberton. When sheriff deputies arrived, a Lumberton police officer was administering CPR to Yhamer Alford of Ralph Hunt Boulevard.

Alford was taken by a ambulance to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, where he died from his wounds.

Investigators interviewed witnesses at the scene to gather information to determine what led to Alford being shot. No arrests have been made. The investigation continues.

The statement did not say how many times Alford was shot, or what might have led to the shooting. The Robesonian will update the story at robesonian.com and in the print edition as information is available.
