Economic hearings on county agenda

LUMBERTON — Greg Cummings, the director of economic development for Robeson County, will be present Monday night for public hearings on Project Core 2018 and Project HAC.

Cummings declined Friday to explain what the projects are or to name the companies involved, saying the companies have asked for anonymity. He said companies often keep their names secret during project planning and negotiations in order to protect themselves from stock market fluctuations that a premature announcement can cause.

Announcements should be coming soon, he said.

“One should be coming between now and January, and the other sometime after January,” Cummings said.

Another agenda item reads, “Sign Dedication of Park.”

Board Chairman Tom Taylor declined Friday evening to speak about this agenda item.

“It’s suppose to be a surprise,” he said.

Monday’s agenda lists a public comments period that is to take place before the public hearing portion of the meeting.

The commissioners meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the county administration building located at 700 N. Elm St. in Lumberton.
