LUMBERTON — A 14-month-old girl has died from injuries that lawmen believe she might have suffered while being abused.

Sheriff Kenneth Sealey said that the child, whose name was not provided, was picked up by Emergency Medical Services at a Rennert Road residence on Friday afternoon, treated initially at Southeastern Regional Medical Center and then flown to Duke University Medical Center in Durham. He said her body had been badly bruised.

No one has been charged, but the Sheriff’s Office does have a person of interest.
