Wednesday was the best day so far for the Empty Stocking Fund with six new gifts adding $3,100 to the total.

The largest gift, for $2,000, is offered anonymously.

We also have a $500 gift to report from the Carolina Shaggers. Two members of that wonderful club are pictured making a presentation to Brandon Tester, who will graduate on Saturday from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke and has already landed a job with The Robesonian as a staff writer.

We also received a $200 donation from the Lumberton Service League, and a gift of the same amount from former Lumberton resident Jeannie Kyle and her husband Mike.

Each of the gifts will be matched by a $50 donation from an anonymous benefactor.

The Fund now has reached $13,500.

There are 1,950 children qualified to receive help from the Fund.

Checks can be mailed to the Empty Stocking Fund, 2175 Roberts Ave., Lumberton, N.C., 28358, or a donation can be delivered in person. As in the past, we will publish photographs with gifts of $500 or more when that request is made. To give yourself the best chance of that photograph appearing on page 1A, get your donation in early.

The vouchers can be redeemed at Roses, either the Lumberton store or the one in Fairmont.
