LUMBERTON — No motive has been determined for the shooting of a Maxton man who was in bed when he was struck.

Stacey Wilkins, 50, of N.C. 710 South in Maxton, was shot about 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to information from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office. Wilkins told responding deputies that he was lying in bed at his residence when he heard gunshots. He felt a pain in his side and saw that he had been shot.

Investigators interviewed a witness who saw a white car near the house, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Multiple people were seen getting out of the car. The people starting arguing and then started shooting at the house.

The investigation continues.

Wilkins was taken to a local hospital. His condition was unavailable as of Tuesday afternoon.
