LUMBERTON — Lumberton police are looking for a woman who fled on foot after robbing an Elm Street bank on Thursday afternoon.

First South Bank, located at 3000 North Elm Street, next to Biggs Park Mall, was robbed at about 3:10 p.m.

The bank was open this morning, but a person who answered the phone said employees were not authorized to speak with a reporter.

According to Lumberton police Capt. Terry Parker, a woman entered the bank and, through a note, demanded money. She left on foot, heading south behind Southeastern Health Mall toward Meadowbrook Cemetery. The woman left with an undisclosed amount of money.

She did not draw a weapon, Parker said, and no one was injured.

She is described as an American Indian or black female, about 5 feet 3 inches or 5 feet 4 inches tall and with a very slim build. She was wearing a baseball cap, a pink, white and blue striped top, blue jeans and sneakers with pink on the back.

Anyone with information should call Lumberton police Detective Lee Hinson at 910-671-3845.

According to a North Carolina Bankers Association alert about the robbery, the association offers a reward through its Robbery Reward Program for information leading to the arrest and indictment of individuals in bank robberies. Anyone with information about the robbery can contact the FBI confidentially at 1-800-209-2293 or submit a tip at bankrobbers.fbi.gov.
