WINSTON-SALEM (AP) — Authorities say a Forsyth County girls basketball coach has been arrested because he had sex with a student, getting her pregnant three years ago.

Investigators say Derrele Mitchell turned himself in to police on Wednesday and was released on bond.

Police say his relationship with the student happened in 2012. Investigators did not release details about why Mitchell was being arrested three years later.

Mitchell was coach of the R.J. Reynolds High girls team for two seasons starting in 2011.

Mitchell is charged with sexual offense with a student and indecent liberties with a student. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.

Winston-Salem-Forsyth County Schools suspended Mitchell without pay on June 8. He is currently boys basketball coach at West Forsyth High School.
