LUMBERTON — Residents from Lumber Bridge Acres, a subdivision of mobile homes just off Lombardy Village Road in Lumber Bridge, are expected to ask Robeson County commissioners on Tuesday to help solve flooding that plagues their community.

Sonia Murphy, a resident of Lumber Bridge Acres, said last month that she plans to be at the meeting to plea for help to improve privately owned dirt roads so that when it rains residents of her community are not trapped by standing water. Murphy said that county and state officials have told her that there is nothing they can do to help, saying public dollars can’t be spent on private land.

Jimmy Robinson, of St. Pauls, is also expected to address the commissioners about water concerns and abandoned houses that are located on the east side of his community.

The commissioners are meeting Tuesday instead of Monday because of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The meeting begins at 6 p.m.

The commissioners will also hold three public hearings on requests for conditional-use permits. These include a request from Angel Reyes for a permit that would allow for the establishment of a mechanic shop on a one-acre tract in St. Pauls; a request from Todd Chavis for a permit that would allow for sand excavation on six acres of a 50-acre tract in Burnt Swamp; and a request from Davey and Linda Locklear to amend a permit issued to operate a vehicle inspection station to include an auto mechanic shop with a barber shop and beauty salon on 2.55 acres in Saddletree.

The commissioners on Tuesday will also:

— Hear a presentation from Andy Bailey, a N.C. Department of Transportation representative, concerning the county’s transportation plan.

— Hear a presentations from Jeanette Jordan-Huffam, chief of quality management for Eastpointe.

— Hear a presentation from Tom Norton, executive director of Palmer Prevention, Inc.

— Consider adopting an equal employment and procurement policy for the county.

— Approve distribution of Community Development Funds.

— Consider changing the name of Jennie Road, a private road in Rowland, to Downie Road.

— Convene as the Robeson County Housing Authority board of directors.
