LUMBERTON — A Maryland man is in critical condition after being pulled from a relative’s pool in Lumberton, according to the Lumberton Police Department.

Walter Stephens, 55, was visiting family at a home on Londonderry Drive when the incident occurred. According to the police department, Stephens began to drown and no one at the home could swim to help him.

Three Lumberton police officers, Sgt. Pete Marcinsky and Officers J.D. Smith and Evan Whitley, pulled Stephens from the pool, the statement said. Officers performed CPR until Stephens was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.
