LUMBERTON — A 30-year-old Fairmont man is dead after being shot in the chest in Lumberton on Sunday, according to the Lumberton Police Department.

Julius Smith’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

According to a statement from the Police Department, officers found Smith lying in the road on Chambers Street near Crandlemire Road and next to St. Mary Holiness Churchafter receiving a call about shots being fired and a second call about a person being shot. The shooting was reported at about 2:40 p.m.,

Upon finding Smith, officers began administering chest compression until EMS arrived, according to an incident report. Smith died at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Smith’s address is listed as Franklin Road in Fairmont.

No suspects are listed in the report.
