LUMBERTON — Substantial rainfall caused a sewer spill on Noir Street Wednesday, according to the city of Lumberton.

The spill began at 515 Noir St. at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday and continued until 3:30 a.m., reaching surface waters of the Lumber River. About 9,000 gallons of waste spilled, the city said in a public notice.

The Division of Water Quality has been notified and is reviewing the matter. The city is required to notified the public of such spills.
