LUMBERTON — The 2016 Veterans and Community Stand Down will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the National Guard Armory at 4502 Fayetteville Road in Lumberton.

During the event there will be medical assessments and screenings provided to veterans, as well as information about available mental health resources, Social Security benefits and military claim filing. Free haircuts will be available for men, women and children, as will be free clothing and a free lunch.

This is the third year that K&L Veterans Affairs Homes and Services has sponsored the event. The Stand Down is open to the entire community, not just veterans and their families.

Karla Carter, CEO and founder of K&L, said that about 300 people from Robeson and surrounding counties are expected to attend the event.
