MARION (AP) — Authorities in McDowell County say a babysitter faces charges that she abused a 10-month-old baby and caused serious injuries.

WLOS-TV in Asheville reports 25-year-old Sierra Presnell Hamilton is charged with child abuse inflicting serious injury. She was released from jail on Thursday on a $10,000 bond. It’s not known if she has an attorney.

According to investigators, the baby was in Hamilton’s care on July 28 when it was taken to the hospital with what doctors determined to be a skull fracture. The infant has since been released from the hospital.

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office received the case on a referral from the county’s department of social services.
