GASTONIA (AP) — Gastonia police say two children were forced to run for help after their parents overdosed on heroin.

Authorities told The Gaston Gazette that the two boys, ages 8 and 9, found their parents unconscious in the bathroom of their home, then ran to a neighbor’s house, where someone called 911. When emergency personnel arrived, they found Michael Boswell and Cynthia Carrigan unconscious on the floor.

Paramedics revived the couple and a relative was called to take custody of the children after Saturday’s incident.

Boswell and Carrigan each face two misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Boswell is free on a $10,000 bond. Warrants have been issued for Carrigan, who was treated at a hospital and released. It’s not known if either parent has an attorney.
