LUMBERTON — A man is recovering from a non-life threatening wound after being shot on Dresden Avenue Wednesday, according to Lumberton police Capt. Terry Parker.

Lumberton police went to the area around the intersection of Coleman Street and Dresden Avenue at about 12:53 p.m. after receiving calls about shots being fired, Parker said. Police taped off the intersection, where crowds were gathering, and began flagging multiple shell casings in the roadway.

Austin McDonald, 21, of Coleman Street, was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound in his lower leg, Parker said.

Brandon Lee Locklear, 19, of Alamac Road, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and discharging a firearm in city limits. He was also charged with shooting into occupied property and discharging a firearm in city limits for an incident that occurred on Friday, Parker said.

According to Parker, McDonald and Locklear were friends and it isn’t clear what prompted the shooting.

Locklear was jailed at the Robeson County Detention Center under a $55,000 bond. His photograph was not available.

Anyone with information should call Detective Charles Keenum at the Lumberton Police Department 910-671-3845.
