Schools to dismiss early because of Hurricane Matthew

LUMBERTON — Students and staff in the Public Schools of Robeson County will be dismissed at 1 p.m. Friday because of the threat of heavy rain from Hurricane Matthew, the school system announced.

There will be no afternoon Primetime Care Friday. All afternoon activities after 1 p.m. are canceled. Parents should make arrangements to ensure children get home from bus stops safely.

Hurricane Matthew, which on Thursday was approaching Florida, is expected to bring as much as 6 inches of rain to Robeson County along with strong winds. Forecasts are calling for rain to begin tonight and continue through Friday, with the storm’s strongest rainfall and wind coming Saturday and Saturday evening.
