Cleanup planned Saturday in South Lumberton

Staff Report

LUMBERTON — Helping hands are being sought for work on Saturday that is intended to clean up and beautify one of the areas hit hardest by Hurricane Matthew.

Honoring Our People Every Day Inc. and partners will hold “Unity in the Community: South Lumberton Cleanup” beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

The goal is to clean up along the roadside and in various neighborhoods that have been outlined as areas of need. Volunteers will not pick up items that need to be removed by the city’s waste contractor.

Volunteers are asked to meet beside the railroad tracks in South Lumberton and locate the balloons to find the registration table. Those who have specific requests or plan to volunteer should call 910-785-4341, or visit the center at 220 E. Fourth St., Lumberton; or email: lumbertonstrongrelief@gmail.

Those wishing to volunteer should dress appropriately for picking up debris. For safety, volunteers should wear neon T-shirts or reflective vests or other reflective material.
