Staff Report

LUMBERTON — A vehicle that was stolen on Tuesday during an armed robbery at a local business has been recovered, but police continue to look for the culprit.

Lumberton police Capt. Terry Parker said the vehicle was recovered a few hours after the robbery at MIS just outside the city, behind a vacant building.

According to a statement Parker released, the gunman entered MIS, which is located at 1312 E. Fifth St., at about 10:30 a.m. and robbed the only employee who was in the store. He then stole a 2011 gray Chrysler 300 that was recovered Tuesday night.

The gunman concealed his face, but was described as being black, about 5 feet, 5 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a slim build, according to the statement. He carried a handgun. No one was injured and the amount of money stolen was undisclosed.

The State Bureau of Investigation has joined the investigation.

Police are asking for anyone with information on the gunman to call Detective Evan Whitley at the Lumberton Police Department at 910-671-3845. Callers can remain anonymous.
