RED SPRINGS — The legal troubles continue to mount for a man already facing charges filed by two municipal police departments.
Shawn Craig Jones, 33, was charged Thursday with possession of a firearm by felon and placed under a $15,000 bond, Red Springs police Capt. Kimothy Monroe said.
Jones already is facing charges in connection with the April 20 armed robbery of McNeill Jewelers in Red Springs, according to Monroe. He was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, five counts of second-degree kidnapping, felony conspiracy and assault with a dangerous weapon. His bond on those charges was set at $80,000.
Jones was in the Robeson County Detention Center after being arrested for the McNeill Jewelers robbery when the Lumberton Police Department served warrants on him in connection with a break-in at Biggs Park Mall and armed robberies at two Fayetteville Road businesses, according to Capt. Terry Parker. Lumberton police charged Jones with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, three counts of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of possession of stolen property, two counts of breaking and entering, one count of larceny after breaking and entering, and four counts of conspiracy. The secured bond for those charges was $210,000.
Biggs Park Mall was broken into on March 25.
On April 19, two men armed with handguns entered the Super 8 Motel on Fayetteville Road and demanded money, Parker said. About two hours later an armed man entered the Dollar General on Fayetteville Road and demanded money, Parker said. Surveillance video and the employee’s description matched the description of one suspect from the Super 8 Motel robbery. Information provided by people who saw the Facebook post helped investigators identify two people of interest in the Super 8 Motel robbery.
Police are looking for the second suspect.
