A taste of summer


Although the official start of summer, June 21, is a week away, the signs and smells of the season are already here. At McQueen’s Produce Farm on N.C. 711 about two miles north of Lumberton, Billy Dial checks part of the watermelon crop. The farm sells squash, cantaloupes, watermelons and tomatoes. In a few weeks peas and corn will be ready, Dial said.
