FAIRMONT — Jenny Larson, the town clerk for Fairmont, was recently named North Carolina Municipal Clerk of the Year at a state clerks conference held in Cherokee.

Both Fairmont’s Town Manager Linda Vause and Mayor Charles Kemp submitted documents to the North Carolina Association of Municipal Clerks in support of Larson.

“Jenny has shown her superior workmanship and dedication over and over,” Kemp said. “Not only has she performed the town clerk duties in an exemplary fashion but has tackled many other duties.”

Larson has been a clerk in Fairmont for 15 years. She also serves as the town’s deputy finance officer and handles the zoning matters. She has served as chairwoman and co-chairwoman of the Farmers Festival, treasurer of Fairmont’s Chamber of Commerce, is involved with various duties at Baltimore Baptist Church, is a member of the Hearts and Hands Lady Civitan Club and co-adviser for the Hands Junior Civitan Club.

“I feel honored and excited,” Larson said. ” … I actually served on the North Carolina Association of Municipal Clerks board of directors a few years ago when we came up with this award. So this was a compete surprise.”

Larson received a plaque and a tree will be planted in Fairmont in her honor.

“Fairmont is indeed fortunate to have such a highly skilled and dedicated employee as Jenny serving our citizens,” Kemp said.

Jenny lives in Fairmont with her husband, Tim Larson, and their two children, Nick and Meghan.
