PEMBROKE — The School of Business at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke will host a financial workshop on Tuesday.

The free workshop will be held at the Office for Regional Initiatives beginning at 11 a.m. The office is located at 115 Livermore Drive in the COMtech business park.

The workshop, titled “New Year, New Finances,” will feature several guest speakers representing the university and local business community.

Topics to be discussed will include home loan application process and what to expect when you decide to buy a home. There will also be a focus on consumer protection laws and debt collection practices, as well as budgeting and saving tips.

The speakers are Jami Nance, assistant vice president and branch manager of PNC Bank; Annette Smith, mortgage loan officer at PNC Bank; Richard Barnes, director of Assurance of Learning/Passport Program for UNCP’s School of Business; and Mohammad Rahman, School of Business professor.

“We hope attendees will walk away with a broader understanding of what it takes to purchase a home and how to budget and save accordingly,” said Dr. Rebecca Gonzalez-Ehnes, finance professor and event organizer.

“We also want them to understand what rights and protections they have as consumers and borrowers,” she said.

The School of Business has adopted a “Student Financial Fitness” initiative which promotes financial literacy and awareness on campus and in the community.
