LUMBERTON — More than 30 county businesses and government agencies received awards Thursday during the N.C. Department of Labor’s annual safety awards banquet.

The event, which was co-sponsored by the N.C. Department of Labor, the Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce and Lumberton Trading/True Value, was held at Adelio’s Restaurant at 111 W.Third St. in Lumberton.

The awards honor outstanding on-the-job safety achievements during 2016. To receive an award companies must have been free of fatal accidents at the site for which the award is given.

Silver Awards were given to businesses or agencies that recorded a rate of days away from work at least 50 percent below the industry average.

Silver Award recipients in Robeson County were:

— First Year: Lumberton Fire Department Station 3 and Lumberton Police Department, West.

— Second Consecutive Year: Lumberton Electric Utilities Department, Lumberton Fire Department Station 1, Lumberton Public Works Department and Lumberton, Recreation Department, Maintenance.

Gold Awards were given to businesses or agencies that recorded a rate of days away from work, job transfer or restriction at least 50 percent below the industry average.

Gold Award recipients in Robeson County were:

— First Year: Alamac American Knits, Lumberton Police Department, Central; Lumberton Police Department, East; Lumbee River Electric Membership Corp.; Metcon Inc., UNCP Student Health Center Project; Prestage Foods Inc.; Town of Red Springs Administration Department; and Red Springs Police Department.

— Second Consecutive Year: Lumberton Police Department, South and International Paper Co., Lumberton Packaging Plant.

— Third Consecutive Year: Lumberton Environmental Utilities Water Treatment, Red Springs Electric Department, Red Springs Fire Department, Red Springs Parks and Recreation Department, and Red Springs Sanitation Department.

— Fourth Consecutive Year: M.J. Soffe Co. in Rowland.

— Fifth Consecutive Year: Lumberton Fire Department Station 2.

— Sixth Consecutive Year: Family Dentistry.

— Seventh Consecutive Year: Lumberton City Hall; Lumberton Recreation Department, Luther Britt Park; Lumberton Recreation Department, Parkview Activity Center; Lumberton Recreation Department, Senior Center; and Lumberton Recreation Department, Bill Sapp Recreation Center.

— Eighth Consecutive Year: Lumberton Environmental Utilities Lab and Lumberton Environmental Utilities Waste Water Treatment.

— Ninth Consecutive Year: Omnisource Southeast, Lumberton Yard.

— 12th Consecutive Year: N.C. Department of Commerce, Division of Workforce Solutions, Lumberton Workforce Office.

— 20th Consecutive Year: Campbell Soup Supply Co.
