PEMBROKE — The University of North Carolina at Pembroke will host a debate on March 2 with candidates for the Board of Education for the Public Schools of Robeson County.

It will be held in the Givens Performing Art Center on the campus of UNCP beginning at 7 p.m.

Several school board seats will be up for grabs during the March 15 election.

The District 4 seat is currently held by Bosco Locklear who will face challengers Harold Hunt and Charles Bullard. District 5’s current seat holder, Gary Strickland, will face Larry Chavis and Craig Lowry, and Steve Martin, currently holding the District 7 seat, will face Billy Prevatte and Brenda Allison.

Incumbent at-large school board members Jo Ann Lowery, John Campbell and Randy Lawson will face challengers Darek Hunt, Severeo Kerns, Richard Monroe, Mary Thomas-Locklear, Elton Tyndall, Robert Davis and Brian Freeman for three at-large seats.

Loistine DeFreece, the District 1 representative, is unopposed.

All school board seats hold four-year terms.
