LUMBERTON – St. Pauls High School teacher Ashley Berdeau and two students, Meghan Autry and Angelic Blevins, are winners of the statewide North Carolina Association of Educators’ Multicultural Arts Contest.
They will be recognized at the school board meeting on Tuesday at 410 Caton Road in Lumberton. Mark Jewell, president of the educator’s group, will present each winner with a plaque.
Ashley Berdeau won first place for her teaching unit “Understanding African-American Experiences Through Art.”
Meghan Autry, a 12th-grader, won first place for her artwork “Grow Together and Become One.”
Angelic Blevins, 11th-grade student, received first place for her poem “Worlds In Us All.”
The Multicultural Arts Contest, sponsored by the North Carolina Association of Educators Human and Civil Rights Commission and the North Carolina Foundation for Public School Children, is open to all public school students in grades K-12 and educators who are members. There are six contest categories — artwork, short stories, poetry, essays, quiz books, and teaching units for minority awareness.
The North Carolina Association of Educators is the state’s largest education advocacy organization for public school employees, representing active, retired, and student members.
