LUMBERTON — Radiation Oncology Manager Shari Kinlaw demonstrated the Gibson Cancer Center’s recently acquired Elekta Versa HD Radiotherapy System radiation treatment system to physicians and representatives from Southeastern Health during a preview event at Gibson Cancer Center held last week.
Visitors toured the newly renovated facility and learned about the revolutionary radiation treatment system designed to improve cancer patient care. This new equipment enables clinicians to treat a broad spectrum of tumors throughout the body, while enabling treatment of complex cancers that require extreme precision.
Coming in at a cost of approximately $3 million, the new Versa HD radiation treatment system is among the most sophisticated technologies in cancer treatment available, and the Gibson Cancer Center, which is an affiliate of Southeastern Health, had the distinction of being among the only treatment centers to have acquired it. Gibson Cancer Center is one of only three medical facilities in the nation to offer radiation treatments using this highly customized system to address individualized patient needs.
The open house offered tours of the facility, radiation treatment system demonstrations as well as light refreshments. Gibson Cancer Center is located at 1200 Pine Run Drive. For information, call 910-671-5734.
