With just nine more days to contribute to The Empty Stocking Fund, there are eight new gifts to report, pushing the fund’s total past the $7,300 mark.
All of today’s gifts, because each is at least $25, will be matched with a $25 donation from an anonymous benefactor.
The largest gift today, which we have come to depend on, comes from Marcus Williams, a local attorney, and is made in honor of his parents. Sadie and Russell Williams. We hope you read the photo caption that accompanies this story.
There is also a $300 gift from the Kiwanis Club of Pembroke, and $100 gifts from County Manager Ricky Harris, Rick Bacon, Community Relations manager for The Robesonian, and his wife Candy, and in honor of the Rancke family.
There is now $7,358.60 in the fund, enough for Christmas for 147 children, but there are 1,502 on the waiting list.
With donations of $500 or more, The Robesonian will publish a photograph if that is requested. Anyone wishing to have a photo published should try to get that donation in quickly to give the best chance that the photograph will appear on Page 1A. Call Editor Donnie Douglas at 910-272-6104 if that is your plan.
Donations can be made in person at our office at 2175 N. Roberts Ave. or mailed to us at P.O. Box 1028, Lumberton, N.C., 28359. Just make the check payable to The Empty Stocking Fund.
Each day The Robesonian will list the money donated and the contributors. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can do so by being listed as “A friend” or “Anonymous.”
