The penultimate day to contribute to The Empty Stocking Fund brought a flood of donations, 27 of them that pushes the amount raised beyond $35,000.

We expect another big day today, when the deadline to contribute arrives at 5 p.m.

Among the donations today is $1,000 from Terry Pate Home Sales that is given in honor of Terry Pate’s late fiance, Nicki Locklear, who was killed in August in a car accident.

“She was a loving and giving person,” Nicki’s mother, Betty Locklear, said.

Terry Pate, the couple’s son, 3-year-old Ethan, and Pate’s teenage sons, Tristan and Kyron, were also in the car and were unharmed. Nicki’s family and friends at Terry Pate Home Sales agreed she would have loved contributing to The Empty Stocking Fund.

“She always supported things like this,” said Bill Emanuel, assistant property and sales manager. “She loved kids.”

Other notable gifts include $1,000 that was offered anonymously, several more in memory of John Rancke Sr. and his daughter-in-law Pam Rancke, and $270 raised at the local Social Security office. As always, we encourage you to check out the list below to see these generous people who are stepping up to try to provide Christmas for the less fortunate among us.

As of now, there is $35,976.60 in the fund, which will provide Christmas for 719 children. Additionally, there have been 165 gifts for at least $25 that will all be matched with a $25 donation, adding $4,125 to the total, and checking 82 more children off Santa’s list.

If you still want to contribute, you have until 5 p.m. today. Come visit us at 2175 N. Roberts Ave.
