RED SPRINGS — An Amber Alert that was issued this morning following the alleged abduction of 1-year-old Jaylon Marcus Bullard in Red Springs has been cancelled.

The mother of the child said on Facebook that her child was never in danger, and that it was all a “misunderstanding.”

Shortly after 1 p.m., a representative at the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the Amber Alert had been lifted, but declined to provide additional information.

Candice Locklear, the boy’s mother, spoke about the situation on her Facebook page.

“Everybody, this is all a big misunderstanding. Nobody kidnapped my lil’ man. Thanks for caring. He is OK!” Locklear wrote in a post published shortly after noon.

Shortly after 2 p.m, she added: “People are too much. Like I said, it was a misunderstanding. Nobody has kidnapped me or my lil’ man and thanks to the ones that cared.”

Sheriff’s deputies were originally searching for a 23-year-old man who they believed took Bullard from a residence at 154 McBridge Road in Red Springs. Authorities said they were not aware of a relationship between that man and Locklear, but there were photographs of them together on Facebook.
