LUMBERTON — Robeson County’s legislative delegation will hold a public forum at the Southeastern Agricultural Events Center on U.S. 74 East from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday. A light supper will be available for those attending. There is no charge.

The event will give the five legislators representing Robeson the opportunity to share their ideas for moving the area forward during the short session of the state General Assembly, which convenes on May 14. It also provides those residing in Robeson and surrounding counties the opportunity to ask questions of their legislators, as well as make suggestions that could help their representatives more efficiently represent their interests in Raleigh.

Robeson County’s legislative delegation, all Democrats, includes Sen. Michael Walters, District 13, which includes Robeson and Columbus counties; Rep. Charles Graham, District 47, Robeson County; Rep. Garland Pierce, District 48, encompassing parts of Robeson, Hoke, Richmond and Scotland counties; Rep. Ken Waddell, District 46, which includes parts of Robeson, Bladen and Columbus counties; and Rep. Ken Goodman, District 66, encompassing parts of Robeson, Scotland, Hoke and Montgomery and Richmond counties.

“All of us in the delegation will speak at this forum, and all of those in attendance can ask us questions and voice their opinions,” Graham said.

According to a statement announcing the event, Robeson County’s state delegation is standing united in its support of legislative efforts that will boost the economy of the state’s rural areas, such as Robeson County and surrounding rural counties.

“The delegation is working together to ensure that Robeson County receives consideration for jobs and economic development through the N.C. Department of Commerce,” the statement reads. ” … Rural counties are always competing with urban counties in the job market.”

“The important thing about this forum is that all of us in the delegation will be there to share our ideas and get input from the public,” said Pierce, the delegation’s senior member. “That’s what makes this event good for everybody.”
